Minnesota Brass Inc. you may take the field in competition...

Last week Zach attended his first drum corps show in South Saint Paul. It was really hot and humid, but Zach didn’t mind. He loves being outside.

We sat on a hill in the shade of a big tree as the groups performed. When Jamer and Minnesota Brass took the field we cheered and hit Zach’s hands together as a way of clapping for his daddy. Unfortunately, Zach was more interested in the tree above (and the leaves blowing in the breeze) than watching the performances. He smiled, squealed and kicked his legs in delight as he felt the grass on his feet for the first time and watched that big tree.

After the show, we tried to take some pictures of Zach and Jamer together, but Zach wasn’t having it (see pictures). Apparently the metal of a drum and harness aren’t exactly the most comfortable things to cuddle up to.

TWO MONTHS!

Zach is progressing like crazy. He’s holding his head up like a champ (he looks like a turtle when he does this) and “talking,” smiling and kicking whenever he’s awake.

Today he had his two-month check up. Zach weighs.... drum roll please... 15 pounds!! Ladies and gents, that's the 98th percentile. We've got a big one here. :) As for length, he's in the 73rd percentile, measuring 1' 11.5". Jamer said he took his shots like a champ and only cried so hard he stopped breathing for a while - something he does during bath time and when he's really pissed. Now, he's sleeping it off with his sweet new bandaides (see picture).

A couple weeks ago he discovered his mobile and now smiles and has short chats with the creatures dancing in front of him.

Every day he gets better at keeping a pacifier in his mouth and he’s getting close to gripping a rattle. The books say he might even start rolling (to one side) soon! I guess that means he’ll need to be monitored a little more closely when he’s just hanging out on his changing table (which he LOVES).

He misses me too...

I got flowers at work today. This has happened only twice ever.

Here’s what the note said:
Mom,
Have a great day at work. I miss you but I am doing great with Daddy!
Love,
Zach
It brought a smile to my face. I miss my little turtle.

Thanks to whomever really sent them.

Back to work

I miss my baby.

This is my first week back at work. It’s hard to believe 8 weeks have passed. My baby boy is two months old!

As I got in my car this morning, I felt a little sad, but it was nothing compared to yesterday - my first day back.

I woke up in the morning and started crying. I cried through my shower and during my commute to work. When I said goodbye to my little turtle, he flashed me a big gummy smile. He can be so sweet sometimes, which makes it even harder to leave him.

I knew it would be hard to go back to work, but didn’t realize my heart would be breaking.

Now Zach spends his days with Daddy. It’s boy time, I guess. My guess is his days are filled with eating, sleeping and cartoons - the adult kind like Family Guy and Futurama and whatever. Hopefully this time alone together will allow them to bond as much as Zach and I have over the last 8 weeks.

I just wish I could be there with them.

Say cheese!

Zach doesn't allow much posting, but here's a video to keep you happy. He started smiling (while awake) a couple weeks ago!
